Radha Nagar Beach

Situated on the Havelock Island, about 67 kilometers from the capital city of Port Blair, Radha Nagar Beach is one the most beautiful beaches in the country. It was termed as Asia’s Best Beach by TIME Magazine (USA) in 2004. Located about 12 kilometers from Havelock Island’s ferry pier, Radha Nagar Beach has always been on the top in tourist itineraries.

Surrounded by beautiful forests, turquoise blue water, white sands and a lot of tranquility, Radha Nagar Beach is surely considered as paradise on Earth. It is also a great place for all types of water activities as the water is hardly turbulent over here with very less waves. The island stretches just over 2 kilometers with 30 to 40 meters in width; one can easily explore the area in a day.

Also known as Beach No. 7, Radha Nagar Beach has a lot of offer for everyone. Whether you are an adventure lover or a nature lover or you just want to relax on the beach, Radha Nagar Beach has it all. It is also a great place to spend some quality time with your loved ones or take a beautiful walk along the beach or just read a book in one of the coffee shops overlooking the sea. How to Reach Radha Nagar Beach

Since Radha Nagar Beach is located on Havelock Island, the best way to reach the island is either by a seaplane or a boat. A seaplane takes around 20 minutes from Port Blair to Havelock Island.

Alternatively, one can also take a ferry/ boat from Phoenix Bay Jetty in Port Blair to Havelock Island. Speedboats take around 2.5 hours to reach the Island while slow boats take around 4 hours. However, if you take a ferry that goes via Neil Island, then the ride takes one hour extra to reach Havelock Island.

One can either take the subsidized Government ferries or hire a private ferry service, which is three times more expensive than the government facility. M.V. Makruzz is the first private ferry service operating from Port Blair to Havelock Island. The Catamaran ferry takes around 90 minutes to reach the island and leaves Port Blair at 6:45 am in the morning. It is best to purchase the tickets for this in advance, especially during the peak season. Another popular private ferry service operating on this route, via Neil Island, is the Coastal Cruise. This ferry runs in any weather condition and is also much cheaper than the earlier ferry service.

Once you reach Havelock Island, Radha Nagar beach is located around 7 kilometers from the ferry pier. Buses and auto-rickshaws are easily available from the pier to the beach.

Best Time to Visit Radha Nagar Beach

The best time to visit the beach is between the months of October and May when the spring is in full bloom and you can thoroughly explore the flora and fauna on the island.

The beach offers a variety of activities for every kind of tourist. Whether you are looking for an adventure or just want to relax with friends and family, Radha Nagar Beach has it all. The beach also offers one of the most spectacular and captivating views of the sunset. However, one should hurry back to the ferry pier after sunset if they are not staying the night at the island.

For tourists who love water sports and want a taste of adventure, Radha Nagar Beach offers an array of activities such as Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Swimming and Game Fishing. Moreover, this beach has some of the best dive centers in the country.

However, it is best to avoid swimming after sunset as the intensity of the waves might increase during the dark. Radha Nagar beach is also very famous among honeymooners as the beach also offers a lot of privacy to the couples.

One such popular restaurant near the beach is White Sands that offers delicious Italian cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the restaurants on this island are healthy and hygienic under the order of Indian Government Tourism Board.

Where to Stay
Accommodation is easily available at Havelock Island and if one is planning to cover other areas of the island, then it is recommended for tourists to stay for a longer period of time over here. Several beach resorts and hotels are situated at the beach, which needs to be booked months in advance, especially if they are planning to come during the peak season. Barefoot at Havelock, Island Vinnies Tropical Beach Cabana, Cross Bill Beach Resort and Wild Orchid are some popular beach resorts located over here.
